  • Kevin Atkinson

    Kevin AtkinsonKevin Atkinson and Lori Atkinson (John’s widow) co-founded the John Atkinson Lung Cancer Foundation.  Through discussions and prayers with John at some dire moments, as well as Kevin witnessing a sprit within his brother to help others is what inspired the vision to continue forward with the work that John began.  Kevin is the Executive Director of the foundation and has focused his attention on the creation of programs, establishing new relationships and speaking publically about Lung Cancer.  Kevin has been an active advocate on Capitol Hill with Lung Cancer Alliance based in Washington DC for three years.  John was a huge supporter of Lung Cancer Alliance which is why Kevin initially sought their guidance and support.  Kevin graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.  Kevin is also a partner in Phelps Atkinson Golf Course Design located in Colorado and has been practicing golf course architecture for 18 years.  He also is the President of Atkinson Design Group, a Landscape Architecture Firm also located in Colorado. Kevin is the proud father of two beautiful daughters.

  • Lori Atkinson

    Lori AtkinsonLori and John's brother, Kevin co-founded the foundation in July of 2009.  They wanted to honor John's memory and carry out his legacy after his passing.  Lori is the Director of the foundation and is very involved in the organizing of the annual fundraiser, Rock to Raise.  She also assists in the scholarship program.  Lori deals with the financial needs of the organization and handles the bills, deposits and statements.  She was happy to hold the first annual lung cancer vigil in Omaha in November 2012 that was sponsored by the foundation.  She is a very dedicated staff member and is touched to be giving back by helping the children who have lost parents to lung cancer.

     Lori is John's widow and a mother of three children.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Education and taught 8th grade English for ten years.  She now works part-time as an Operations Assistant for FocusOne Solutions, a division of C&A Industries.  She is active in her church choir and teaches Sunday school.  John's favorite quote, "Never, never give up" is Lori's inspiration to keep moving forward and to make a difference in lung cancer through the foundation's mission.

  • Jenny Haase

    Jenny Haase Jenny Haase was John's sister-in-law.  Jenny loved John's passion for life and his will, even when sick, to always help out children.  As the Scholarship Program Director, Jenny works to make sure all the details of the scholarship program are taken care of in a timely manner.  Jenny also helps out in the day to day tasks of the foundation.  She is instrumental in making our annual fundraiser, Rock to Raise, a success!

    Jenny is married to Tom Haase and lives in Omaha with their two children, Brandon and Allison.  Jenny enjoys volunteering at school and helping out with the PTO.  She is also very active in her church choir, ladies' club, Sunday School, and serves as financial secretary for the church executive board.  Jenny received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1993 and was a pharmaceutical sales representative for Abbott Laboratories until she decided to leave the career world to be a "stay at home" mom.

    Jenny shares the same drive that John had to create awareness about lung cancer.  She is very inspired by the work that the Foundation has done so far and hopes to continue helping children who have lost a parent to lung cancer for many years to come.

  • Ann Akinson

    Ann Atkinson is John’s mom and a staff member of the Foundation.  Ann is a senior paralegal with Kutak Rock LLP in Omaha, Nebraska.  She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a major in business education.  She currently serves as the President of the National Association of Legal Assistants.  Ann received her Certified Paralegal designation in 1993 and earned her Advanced designation in Contract Administration in 2006.  She is a former adjunct instructor in an ABA-approved paralegal program in Omaha, teaching law office administration, ethics and introductory classes and is currently one of the instructors in the local CLA/CP review course. She and Ed have been married for 45 years and have lived in Omaha for most of their married life.   They are both devoted to John’s memory and all that he stood for and continue to be very involved with their family.
